Four Tips to Getting A Great Logo!
Deciding how your brand should look is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make for your organization. And if you're launching a new website with a 'new look' and have even mild misgivings about how your logo will look in your new website, it's a MUST! To help guide you, we’ve selected four fantastic approaches to creating your brand. By being familiar with these different treatments you can make an educated decision on one more suited to your needs and requirements.
The TYPEFACE
The Typeface is perhaps the clearest and most sincere of all brand treatments. But don't let its simple profile fool you! Its level of difficulty is high, so trusting a bland process of ‘picking fonts’ will more than likely leave you disappointed. Instead, the mature designer relies on a background in typography and detailed letter forms to achieve the desired result!

The INSIGNIA
The Insignia (or Icon) is often the most difficult to design for at least two reasons. First, the symbol has to be highly simplistic, instantly recognizable and undeniably distinct. Secondly, it has to communicate its message even when presented without any type. The Insignia is a tall order and requires a skilled designer to pull off. |
 |
The IMAGE
The Image is perhaps the most popular among brands because it borrows qualities from the Typeface, Insignia and Free-Hand treatments. This artistic fusion gives it a visual appeal that is unique and stylish. Although its level of difficulty is less than the others, understanding how each ingredient influences the final outcome is something only a studied designer can provide. |
 |
The FREE-HAND
The Free-Hand (or Illustrative) treatment is complex, ultra-detailed and relies on color. The traditional skills of sketching, cartooning, painting and photography are required to ‘flesh out’ the uniqueness of this treatment. The Free-Hand is common among characters and mascots. |
